What to Do in Fayetteville, NC: Local’s Guide to Food, Fun & Hidden Gems

Fayetteville isn’t just another stop on the map for us, it’s a place we used to call home. So when we had the chance to return and experience the city through the lens of visitors (thanks to @distinctlyfayettevillenc*), we were so excited to revisit some of our favorite spots and discover a few new ones.

Whether you’re hosting family, passing through on a North Carolina road trip, or looking for a fun and unexpected weekend getaway, Fayetteville delivers with a great mix of food, fun, and small-city charm. Here's how we’d show off this town to friends coming to visit from botanical gardens to baseball games and beyond.

Nature Goals: Cape Fear Botanical Garden

Cape Fear Botanical Garden has always held a special place in our hearts, it was one of our favorite escapes when we lived here. Whether you’re wandering the winding trails, admiring the seasonal blooms, or just sitting quietly by the pond, it’s the kind of place that instantly slows you down (in the best way).

This garden is peaceful, beautiful, and surprisingly big. You can spend hours here and still feel like you’ve only scratched the surface. It’s perfect for solo strolls, coffee walks, or taking visitors for that “wow, this is Fayetteville?!” moment.

Shop + Sip: Leclair’s General Store

Leclair’s is part café, part vintage shop, part “I want everything in here.” It’s quirky, curated, and full of charm and yes, we absolutely sipped on Hatchet Coffee while wandering through aisles of art, books, and one-of-a-kind finds. If you love treasure hunting in cozy, creative spaces, this is your stop. Plus, the vibe is just… cool. Like, someone-here-has-an-art-degree!

And get this: the owner used to work for Ralph Lauren as their Visual Merchandiser. As soon as we learned that, it all clicked. We’ve spent time exploring Ralph Lauren stores in NYC and Chicago and Leclair’s has that same layered, story-driven mood. Cozy but elevated. Collected, not cluttered. It’s such a vibe, and we’re obsessed.

TL;DR If Anthropologie and Ralph Lauren had a stylish Southern cousin with really good taste it’d be Leclair’s.

Vintage Goldmine: Westdale Vintage

Looking for unique finds with character? Westdale Vintage is it. We love a good vintage dig, and this place seriously delivers with racks of curated classics from throwback band tees to jackets that would make your grandpa jealous.

You’ll walk out with at least one thing you weren’t expecting but absolutely needed.

Food Truck + Drink Heaven: The Haymount Truck Stop

We love a good food truck hangout, and The Haymount Truck Stop is Fayetteville’s go-to outdoor chill spot. With rotating food trucks, great drink options it’s ideal for a group hang or low-key date night. The vibe? Think laid-back backyard hangout meets local art scene. The space is lined with colorful murals that give it a fun, creative energy perfect for snapping a photo between tacos and toasts. It’s the kind of place where you can post up for a few hours and just be.

All-American Fun: Fayetteville Woodpeckers Game

One of the absolute highlights of our trip? Catching a Fayetteville Woodpeckers game at the beautiful Segra Stadium and not just because the stadium snacks were top-tier (though… yes, also that).

Here’s the real moment: Ash threw the first pitch. Like… the actual first pitch. On the mound. In front of a crowd. In a stadium.

“I’m not sure I even know how to throw a baseball I was a soccer girl growing up!” But nerves aside, it was such an incredible honor, especially because Fayetteville is Ash’s hometown. To be invited back and asked to take part in something so special was surreal in the best way.

The Woodpeckers team couldn’t have been more welcoming, and the entire game was a blast great energy, fun crowd, and the perfect blend of small-town charm and big-league excitement. Huge shoutout to the Woodpeckers team y’all are incredible

Even if you're not a sports fan, go for the experience: the nostalgia, the food, It’s good, wholesome, hometown fun and we loved every second.

Ziplining Thrills: ZipQuest Waterfall & Treetop Adventure

If you’re looking to add a little “woah, did we just do that?” to your Fayetteville weekend, ZipQuest is the place to be. This treetop adventure course is one of the top-rated ziplines in the U.S.

The views? Incredible. You’re literally soaring through the trees, gliding over a waterfall, and taking in these sweeping views that make you forget you’re anywhere near a city yes, this is still Fayetteville. You’d never expect this kind of lush, scenic adventure tucked away in what’s typically known for military bases and downtown eats.

And the suspension bridges? So. Fun. There’s something equal parts thrilling and hilarious about wobbling across a swinging bridge high in the air while trying to look cool for the camera. (Spoiler: we did not look cool, but we had the best time.)

Even if you’re not an adrenaline junkie, this experience hits that sweet spot between adventure and nature therapy. It’s safe, beautifully run, and gives you that little jolt of “I just did something awesome” confidence you didn’t know you needed.

Must-See History: Airborne & Special Operations Museum

The Airborne & Special Operations Museum is a Fayetteville icon and for Ash, this one hit especially close to home. Growing up in a military family, places like this aren’t just historical they’re personal.

The museum tells the incredible story of the 82nd Airborne Division and U.S. Special Operations Forces, bringing decades of courage, sacrifice, and history to life through powerful exhibits and immersive storytelling.

Even if you’re not from a military background, it’s impossible to leave without a deeper appreciation for what these men and women have given and continue to give. From real-life artifacts to moving stories, the entire experience is both humbling and inspiring.

If you're visiting Fayetteville, this stop is a must. It’s not just a museum it’s a piece of the town’s heart, and it left us both incredibly grateful and proud.

Plant-Based Perfection: Vibe Gastropub

Right in the heart of downtown Fayetteville, Vibe Gastropub is more than just a restaurant it's a celebration of community, creativity, and conscious eating. For Ash, this spot holds a special place, as it's owned by her childhood friend, Ambery Edge. Watching Ambrey transform her passion into a thriving vegan haven has been nothing short of inspiring.

Ambery's journey from managing a food truck to establishing Vibe Gastropub is a testament to her dedication and vision. The menu boasts 100% plant-based delights, all crafted from scratch with love and intention .

The ambiance? Think cozy boho-chic meets modern gastropub. It's the kind of place where you can enjoy a hearty meal, sip on a refreshing drink, and feel the positive energy that the team infuses into every detail.

Whether you're a lifelong vegan, full-on foodie or just curious about plant-based cuisine, Vibe Gastropub offers a dining experience that's both satisfying and soul nourishing. It's a must visit spot that embodies the spirit and flavor of Fayetteville.

Historic Charm: The MacPherson House Bed & Breakfast

Nestled in the heart of downtown Fayetteville, The MacPherson House offers a delightful blend of historic elegance and modern comfort. Our stay here was nothing short of enchanting think cozy vibes, thoughtful details, and a warm welcome that made us feel right at home.

Originally built in 1920 and relocated to its current spot on Hay Street, this beautifully restored B&B exudes character. Each of the six guest rooms features a king-sized bed and private en-suite bathroom, combining vintage charm with contemporary amenities.

One of the highlights of our stay was the signature breakfast served in the elegant dining room. Prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients. The location is unbeatable just a short stroll from downtown shops, eateries, and attractions making it the perfect base for exploring Fayetteville. Whether you're sipping coffee on the porch or unwinding in your room, The MacPherson House offers a serene retreat steeped in history and Southern hospitality.
